The Life and Death of Peter Sellers 彼德斯拉笑臉看人生
我沒有看過彼德斯拉 (Peter Sellers, 1925-1980)的作品, 只知道他曾經演過《傻豹系列》(The Pink Panther) 和《密碼119》(Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb) . 對彼德斯拉的認識, 全憑這部《The Life and Death of Peter Sellers》.
雖然石琪說不喜歡這套電影, 認為Geoffrey Rush不像Peter Sellers. 但我認為Geoffrey Rush的演出無懈可擊. 找一個人飾演另外一個人, 樣貌神似並不重要, 最精彩的是演到神緒. Geoffrey Rush簡直被Peter Sellers本人上身, 扮烏龍幫辨、奇愛博士、甚至James Bond (那就是元祖《Royale Casino》) , 除了代入Peter Sellers的經典角色外, 還不停分飾斯拉爸爸斯拉媽媽斯拉太太斯拉朋友...觀眾完全察覺不到Geoffrey Rush何時變臉, 叫觀眾拍爛手掌.
至於Peter Sellers其人其事, 影片描述他本人外表充滿喜劇感, 實質上卻是個不能控制自我的燥狂暴君. (有點像《Man on the moon》Andy Kuffman的手段, 笑匠演喜劇先要激怒所有人. 當喜劇最成功的一刻, 觀眾卻離棄笑匠) Peter Sellers走紅後開始迷失自我, 喜怒無常, 氣走太太和兒女, 連母親都要作弄一番. 自我膨脹後, 他容不下眼前所有事物. 縱然得罪全世界, 全世界也不理解他, Peter Sellers內心極力逃避, 仍然渴望親情, 認真悲喜交集.
Peter Sellers未必過度入戲而分不出人生真假, 但他本應是個嚴守律己的人. 以前我提出過一種看法, 喜劇演員為了掌握笑彈的最佳節奏, 其難度比其他類型演出更高, 笑匠無時無刻要構思引人發笑的絕世好橋, 讓觀眾大笑前, 自己先要忍得住笑. 所以喜劇演員本質是很嚴謹的. (Peter Sellers並不喜歡演《傻豹》的探長, 卻也是他最深入民心的角色. 後期也因為演藝生涯出現瓶頸, 不得已再三演《傻豹》) 由是影片將Peter Sellers好笑的精華提煉出來, 真正所講的卻是演員本人如何由起點走到最後一步.

細個鍾意睇傻豹，無論係電影定卡通，通通照殺；彼德斯拉真係好似卡通片入面既角色。
而家睇史提夫馬田，覺得佢似扮傻多。
石琪越來越老，好多戲都睇唔明，佢d影評，頂多信一、兩成；記得有套戲係美國著名rapper Ice Cube(中文好似叫艾斯古比，曾經做過「奪金三王」既其中一王)做既；但係阿琪叔唔知佢係乜水，仲話佢咁肥都有主角做，好難睇。
其實，Ice Cube棄rap投影好多年啦，琪叔到依家都捕捉唔到d影壇新消息，真係信佢乜都死呀！
再者，我一向都唔係好聽影評，石琪唔喜歡Geoffrey Rush係佢既事，我淨係信我對眼同選擇。

to me, DOCTOR STRANGELOVE, LOLITA, and BEING THERE, and 3 of Peter Sellers' best performances. I still enjoy watching the first 2 Pink Panther films he starred in, but they went downhill soon starting with the 3rd installment.
Sellers was a genius in comedic roles. I really can't think of any other actor tha has the same control, timing, and range with a comedic role as Sellers, while not needing to resort to turning a "lunatic" to make the audience laugh.
Bob Hope was funny... and so were comedy ensembles like the Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, etc... but none of them did impersonations, and none of them would venture-off into an area where the audience would judge the role as a character, instead of a good performance by a "branded" actor that's known for their trademark routines.
Robin Williams comes close, but he has not nearly the control and timing that was Sellers' best asset.

Peter Sellers 還演過 Lolita ，我覺得佢，好勁， and he is much more than a comedy actor 。The fact is ， 大概可能真係一個狂燥既人，先得演繹到個種癲狂中的纖柔。 No way, Steve Martin 既硬滑稽同 Peter Sellers 既渾然天成信手拈來係兩回事。 Robin Williams 更加係似小丑多過乜。
其實沒有看這部電影，因為對我來說， Peter Sellers 就是 Peter Sellers ，沒有興趣看別人來演繹他。

同意makuranososhi既講法，美國既搞笑演員(尤其荷里活既主流演員)一向都好夾硬同造作，一d都唔自然；Robin Williams 近年懶溫情，但係實情係肉麻當有趣，就算細路睇完都嫌佢白痴。

I think the material given to the actors has a lot to do with their limited range we see on screen. Hollywood has always been about meeting the "lowest common denominator" to avoid audience's not "getting the joke". While Peter Sellers is one of the great "impressionists" in the acting world, Bill Murray is also known for his talent in "understated" acting with comedic roles--what Peter Sellers did best.
Going the "understated" approach is a risk in Hollywood--often it calls for you to have built a certain fan-base before you venture off onto this route, and it's certainly not common for comedy actors to begin their career that way in Hollywood. Sellers exemplifies the Brit's sense of humor, which can range from playing the "straightman" opposite a lunatic [in a pair-up], or just go nuts like Monty Python or actors in the "kitchen Sink" genre of films.
In my opinion, Robin Williams has been given a lot of bad material to work with in almost all of his film roles. His best hour is still as a stand-up comedian or in tv comedies.
If I had to pick my favorite comedy actors, it would be Peter Sellers and probably Red Skelton.
I'd watch Geoffrey Rush in the Peter Sellers film as an insight into the actor's life, and judge not so much just on how well Rush plays Sellers--but I'm sure Rush is one of the best choices for the role on account of his talents.

我覺得Geoffrey Rush最成功的地方是完全撇甩自己, 百分百投入角色. 睇佢演出已經值回票價.

I can't wait to see it... too bad I missed the HKIFF screening of this film... but I think it's already on DVD, or maybe HBO will play it on their network in Hong Kong?
as a theatrical release, on the other hand, I don't think it will have a strong enough draw (simply bc not many people nowadays remember Peter Sellers, let alone someone else playing Peter Sellers)... maybe Broadway Cinematheque will screen it on a Sunday morning?
Apparently Britt Eklund (Peter Sellers' ex-wife) didn't want to have anything to do with the film... but she ended up praising it after seeing the finish product--it didn't hurt that Charlize Theron was cast to play Eklund-- she was probably more concerned that who played her wouldn't be attractive enough.
Britt Eklund was drop-dead gorgeous during her younger years. Sellers had a thing for blondes.

The Life and Death of Peter Seller已出了dvd.
聽聞過Britt Eklund 不太喜歡這電影, 但她也出席首映禮. Charlize Theron也很像她後生時的樣子呢.
